On March 24, 2018, tragedy struck when The Player suffered a near-catastrophic injury in the New Orleans Handicap (Grade II) at Fair Grounds. The Player suffered two sesamoid fractures in his right front leg and had surgery at Louisiana State University to fuse the bones back together.
"Many thanks to the vets and staff at LSU who were nothing short of awesome for the nearly 6 months of his recovery. The care they gave him and the communication with us was exceptional."
We're very happy to report that The Player returned home to Frankfort in September 2018, and begins his stallion career at Pope McLean's Crestwood Farm in 2019. Visit his Stallion Register page >>
I have an outstanding stable and farm crew, who have contributed so much to our success. Thanks go to all our grooms, barn foremen, longtime assistant trainer and rider Maria Kabel, assistant trainer and rider Chelsey Coady, long time exercise rider and blacksmith Jeff Lopez, exercise riders Jada Schlenk, Amanda Castro and Gabe Hebert, and van driver Jim Doss.
Thanks also to Ackel and Matt Hebert who help break our young horses near Lexington, Kentucky.
Thanks also to David "Art" and Marty Fisher in Ocala, Florida, who break yearlings and prepare some of our two year olds for the track.
